Online Ocular Inspection of the Philippine School in Oman Applying for Additional Senior High School Strands

On 08 June 2022, the Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas (IACPSO) conducted an online ocular inspection of the Philippine School in the Sultanate of Oman (PSO). The school’s application for permit to offer additional Senior High School (SHS) strands such as STEM, ABM, and HUMMs were submitted to the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Commission of Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in April this year. The Inspection Team was composed of Dr. Enrique Palacio, Dr. Elsie Esmer and Dr. Riza Gusano of the DepEd, and Misses Benilda R. Pereyra and Lindsay Mercado of the CFO. The Department of Foreign Affairs’ representative, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joanna Vi D. Arbado of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, was on-site and attested that the inspection was taking place in the registered address of the school. The inspection was done through the use of Zoom application and a live virtual facility tour was conducted by the School Inspection Team, headed by Mr. Michael B. Joves, Officer-in-Charge (OIC). PSO-Board of Trustees (BOT) Chair Engr. Luisito B. Layon, Academic Committee Chair Ms. Cherry Ann Cuntapay-Ballad, and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) President Mrs. Catherine M. Layon were also present to support the PSO’s application for additional SHS strands. On 14 March 2022, H.E. Imelda M. Panolong, Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, welcomed the newly-elected BOT and school officials of the PSO at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal Hall. During the courtesy call, BOT Chair Layon conveyed to the Ambassador of the school’s planned enhancement and expansion of its SHS education program and requested for the Embassy’s support on the matter. On 09 June 2022, H.E. Imelda M. Panolong, Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, received the Board of Directors of the Filipino Community Social Club (FILCOSOC) at the Sentro Rizal Hall of the Philippine Embassy. Ambassador Panolong congratulated the newly-constituted Board of Directors (BOD) and expressed her appreciation for the cooperation and assistance provided by FILCOSOC to the Embassy’s events. The BOD shared with the Ambassador their planned social activities and workshops for the rest of the year. They also conveyed their intent to collaborate with the Embassy and POLO-OWWA in programs that discuss local laws of the host government with the Filipino community as the target audience. Ambassador Panolong wished the Board of Directors the best in their endeavors and expressed her hope that the good relations between the Embassy and FILCOSOC that have built up over the years will continue to endure and strengthen. FILCOSOC is the only Filipino community organization that is duly registered with the Ministry of Social Development in Oman and recognized by the host government. Further, it is the umbrella organization of other affiliated Filipino community groups and/or associations that are active in the different regions of Oman. END.

As part of the Philippine Embassy in Oman's commemoration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme “Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas" and National Flag Day, the Philippine Embassy, led by Ambassador Imelda M. Panolong, held a flag raising ceremony on Embassy grounds on 12 June 2022.
