In preparation for the holding of the first automated elections in Oman for Philippine overseas voters, personnel from the Philippine Embassy in Muscat successfully completed the training for the use of Automated Election Systems (AES) for the 2019 National and Local Elections (NLE) conducted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 15 – 17 March 2019.

Six (6) foreign service personnel of the Embassy, led by Consul Arvic Arevalo, attended the training in Dubai. The attendees were nominated members of the different electoral boards of the Embassy who will be deputized by the COMELEC for the upcoming elections.

Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman H.E. Narciso T. Castañeda extended his congratulations on the successful completion of the training by the Embassy personnel and reaffirmed the commitment of the Embassy in the holding of fair and honest overseas elections in Muscat with the first-ever use of the Automated Elections Systems. “As it is the first time that overseas voting will be automated in Oman, the Embassy is making sure that the personnel who will be deputized by the COMELEC for the upcoming elections are properly trained and capable to use the new systems,” Ambassador Castañeda said.

The training in Dubai was conducted by a COMELEC team led by Commissioner Rowena V. Guanzon. It is part of a series of training overseas for Philippine foreign service personnel who will be deputized by COMELEC for the 2019 NLE.

Filipino overseas voters in Oman will experience for the first time the use of the Automated Election Systems during the 2019 NLE, as the last Philippine national elections in Oman was done manually. The 2019 Overseas Elections will begin in 13 April 2019 and will end at 6 PM (Philippine time) of 13 May 2019. END.
