01 February 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Oman Narciso T. Castañeda together with the Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jose L. Garcia III and Cultural and Tourism Officer Maria Odessa P. Cruz were warmly welcomed to the Philippine School Oman (PSO) by its Acting Principal Pevwarti L. Surgisis, PSO Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman Dr. Rolaiza Roniella S. Singayao, PSO teachers and students during their visit to the said school on January 23, 2014.
The highlights of the program during the visit include an audio-visual presentation on the history of the school, an intermission number by the school’s chorale, a cultural dance performance by select grade one pupils, and inspirational messages delivered by the Acting Principal, the BOT Chairman, and Ambassador Castañeda.
In his remarks, Ambassador Castañeda assured the audience that the hard work done by the PSO’s management, teachers, and parents towards the development of young Filipino minds in Oman and for the betterment of the community will be met with support from the Embassy. Ambassador Castañeda expressed hopes that PSO’s dedication and passion to succeed will not waver.
PSO was established in 1989 and opened in 1990. It has over 750 students from pre-school level to fourth year high school. The school started to implement the K-12 program during the school year 2012-2013. While the majority of the students are children of overseas Filipinos, other foreign nationals attend the school as well. The school is accredited by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) and duly recognized by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). END
