14 December 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Muscat, in cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Muscat commemorated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio and National Volunteer Month through a recognition ceremony honoring volunteer individuals and organizations who have supported the Embassy in its programs and projects for the Filipino migrant workers in Oman. The event also served as an advance commemoration of the death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal.
In his inspirational message, Ambassador Narciso T. CastaƱeda thanked all the volunteer organizations and individuals for their support to the Filipino community in Oman. The Ambassador extolled the example shown by Andres Bonifacio, an ordinary Filipino who rose above daunting challenges and made a difference. He also encouraged everyone to emulate the life of the national hero Jose Rizal, who showed deep love of motherland.
The honorees were also commended for being partners with the Embassy in building up the Filipino community in Oman.
