The Philippine Embassy in Muscat, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), organized a series of art workshops for children of OFWs in Oman, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia. NCCA artists Salvador Convocar and Alma Quinto will be conducting “Art Workshop for Filipino Migrant Children in the Middle East” from February 21 to March 2, 2013. Over 600 students from different Philippine Schools have signed up. The two artists arrived from Manila to judge in the art category of the Art and Literary Competition, a project sponsored by the Philippine Embassy in Muscat for OFW children in the Middle East..
Adapting the project’s theme, “Art as Reality: Young Lives in Transition”, the workshop debuted at the Philippine School Oman on February 21 and was attended by more than 50 OFW children. Volunteer Filipino artists working in Oman assisted in the workshop.
The participants were introduced to the works by famous Filipino artists Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo and Fernando Amorsolo. The children also learned simple techniques on how to create characters during the “Fun with Art” session. In the afternoon session, the children watched a presentation on “Children’s Creativity amidst Cultural Diversity”, did actual art productions such as drawings and paintings, and joined in group sharing exercises. End.
