On 08 June 2022, the Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas (IACPSO) conducted an online ocular inspection of the Philippine School in the Sultanate of Oman (PSO). The school’s application for permit to offer additional Senior High School (SHS) strands such as STEM, ABM, and HUMMs were submitted to the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Commission of Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in April this year. The Inspection Team was composed of Dr. Enrique Palacio, Dr. Elsie Esmer and Dr. Riza Gusano of the DepEd, and Misses Benilda R. Pereyra and Lindsay Mercado of the CFO. The Department of Foreign Affairs’ representative, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joanna Vi D. Arbado of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, was on-site and attested that the inspection was taking place in the registered address of the school. The inspection was done through the use of Zoom application and a live virtual facility tour was conducted by the School Inspection Team, headed by Mr. Michael B. Joves, Officer-in-Charge (OIC). PSO-Board of Trustees (BOT) Chair Engr. Luisito B. Layon, Academic Committee Chair Ms. Cherry Ann Cuntapay-Ballad, and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) President Mrs. Catherine M. Layon were also present to support the PSO’s application for additional SHS strands. On 14 March 2022, H.E. Imelda M. Panolong, Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, welcomed the newly-elected BOT and school officials of the PSO at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal Hall. During the courtesy call, BOT Chair Layon conveyed to the Ambassador of the school’s planned enhancement and expansion of its SHS education program and requested for the Embassy’s support on the matter.
