In an effort to bring the services of the Embassy closer to the people of Salalah, a consular outreach was once again conducted at the Haffa House, Salalah on 05-06 July 2012. The visiting embassy team was headed by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jose L. Garcia III and consisted of representatives from the consular section and the POLO-OWWA.
The consular team processed 43 passport applications and seven documents for authentication/notarization. POLO-OWWA representatives issued 11 Overseas Employment Certifications (OECs) and processed 13 OWWA membership applications. As part of its overseas absentee voting (OAV) drive, the Embassy facilitated the registration of 38 Filipino nationals.
The Filipino Community in Salalah organized a Post-Independence Day celebration at the Hilton Hotel, Salalah. The evening event featured various performances from the Filipino community, and the introduction of FILCOM-Salalah’s community projects and activities, including its recent partnership with iLearners Inc., free computer courses and the launching of “PLUMA”, FILCOM-Salalah’s official newsletter. The highlight of the event was the induction of the new set of officers of the Filipino Community-Salalah, administered by Vice Consul Garcia.
In his remarks, Vice Consul Garcia congratulated the Filipino community leaders and members for their efforts to organize meaningful projects for the community. He encouraged the community to continually improve themselves and play their part in nation building.
Other activities conducted during the two-day consular outreach included a plant tour to Octal, one of the biggest PET producers in the world and a global leader in the packaging industry, and the oath-taking of the officers of Pinoy Badminton Club, a newly-organized Filipino community group in Salalah.
