20 June 2012 – To commemorate the 151st Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, a film showing on the life on the national hero was held at Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat on 19 and 20 June 2012. The two-day event was attended by the third and fourth year high school classes of the Philippine School, Oman, numbering 50 students. 

The Rizal film showing was a fitting initial offering of the Sentro Rizal cultural center and library, the first in the Middle East, which was inaugurated on 12 June 2012 as the highlight of the Post’s celebration of the 114th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence. 

The award-winning movie epic José Rizal, by Marilou Diaz Abaya, captivated the students. By showing the life of Rizal, it is hoped that students would be educated of Rizal’s greatness and aspirations and enable the expatriate children to reconnect with their nation’s colorful history, thus instilling pride and nationalism.
