28 May 2012 – As part of the ongoing efforts to promote financial literacy among overseas Filipinos, the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), under the auspices of the Embassy of the Philippines in Muscat and the Philippine Ladies Group in Oman, conducted a Financial Literacy seminar for overseas Filipinos in Oman at the Chancery. Aimed at educating OFWs in making sound financial decisions by promoting savings and wise investments, Mr. Roberto S. Vergara, Land Bank’s First Vice President and Group Head of Overseas Filipino Services and Remittances Group, delivered a two-hour lecture on various topics such as ways of managing finances, importance of financial planning and the different types of financial instruments, including the basics of Trust and UITF. Mr. Vergara also discussed Land Bank’s roles and services for overseas Filipinos. 

The seminar gained a huge response from the Filipino community and was attended by more than 50 participants. This is a manifestation of the keenness of OFWS in Oman to be educated on the proper way to invest their hard earned money. 

In his remarks, CDA Jose L. Garcia III affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to pursue efforts to promote financial literacy among overseas Filipinos in Oman through the conduct of more financial literacy seminars ahead. End.
