The Philippine team gave a victorious conclusion to the third edition of the Spirit of Nations 2012 Expat Basketball Tournament on 04 May 2012 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, as they bagged the first place trophy of the annual sporting event. The undefeated Filipinos played the championship game against the Lebanese team. Other participants included teams from China, Spain, Serbia, Sudan, US and Turkey. 

The Expat Basketball Tournament is organized by Promo Oman LLC and aims to enhance the friendly relations of Omani and expat communities, through basketball and other sports.

Ambassador Joselito A. Jimeno watched the final matches and was among the presenters of trophies to the winners during the event’s closing ceremony. 

In a gathering held at the chancery on 05 May 2012, the Philippine team’s overall coordinator, Mr. Erick De Jesus, along with the team manager, Mr. Roberto Delos Santos, coaches, Mr. Clarence Carlos and Mr. Alain Garcia, and players, formally turned over the trophy and plaque of appreciation to Ambassador Jimeno. The Ambassador congratulated the winning team and encouraged them to continue working towards projecting the best image of the Filipinos in Oman not only in their respective lines of work, but also through friendly sports competition. The expat Filipino players are employed in several large Omani companies such as Occidental Petroleum, Strabag Oman, Ibra College, Muscat Municipality, etc. End.
