As part of the 2012 Muscat Festival, the Philippine Embassy, along with the other four ASEAN embassies in Oman, (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand) hosted an “ASEAN Cultural Show” on 19-22 February 2012. Each country presented a showcase of its culture with artistic performances, display of traditional products, and sampling of cuisine in their respective booths.

The Filipino Community took pride in featuring an ensemble of traditional songs and music. The ensemble highlighted the musical talent and artistry of the Filipinos. The Philippine booth reflected the multi-faceted Filipino culture and lifestyles. Many visitors, Omanis and expatriate nationals, flocked to see displays of handicrafts, home decors and accessories and to savor authentic Filipino cuisine. A number of visitors expressed their interest in buying the items on display. The colorful ati-atihan costumes and tourism print outs delighted many visitors, who merrily posed for souvenir photos at the booth.

The Philippine booth also served as a platform for tourism promotion with the dissemination of tourism flyers of the Philippines’ cultural and natural wonders. Videos on popular tourism destinations were also played.

The event was a success and the ASEAN community hopes that this year’s ASEAN Cultural Show will be the first of more cultural shows to come.
