The Philippine Embassy in Muscat conducted the first ever mobile consular outreach to Salalah last 15-16 December 2011. Salalah is the second largest city in the Sultanate and plays host to around 3,000 Philippine nationals. It is located in southern Oman (near the border with the Republic of Yemen), approximately 1,000 kilometers from the capital city.
Ambassador Joselito A. Jimeno led the visiting embassy team, which consisted of representatives from the consular section and POLO-OWWA. Consular services were conducted from Haffa House, located in the central area of the city. The consular team processed 66 passport applications and 8 documents for authentication/notarization. POLO-OWWA representatives issued 8 Overseas Employment Certifications (OECs) and processed 6 OWWA membership applications. As part of its overseas absentee voting (OAV) drive, the Embassy facilitated the registration of 43 Filipino nationals.
Ambassador Jimeno held dialogues with Filcom leaders to discuss issues concerning the Filipino community in Salalah. He assured them of the Embassy’s assistance in their endeavors to assist fellow countrymen. The Filipino community members were urged to continue projecting the best image of the Filipino and the Philippines by being exemplary guest workers and law-abiding residents in Salalah.
The Ambassador also met with representatives of Salalah-based companies which employ a large number of Filipino workers, such as the Port of Salalah and Octal Resin. He expressed gratitude to the companies for appreciating the world-class skills and work ethic of OFWs.
