08 July 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Muscat reported a good turnout at a consular outreach activity it conducted in Salalah from May 30 to 31.
Salalah, which is about 1,000 kilometers from Muscat, is the second major city in Oman. Close to 200 overseas Filipino workers turned up to receive consular and other related services. Community leaders observed that the early announcement of the schedule made by the Embassy contributed to the good turnout.
The Embassy team was composed of officials and personnel from the Embassy, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) offices in Muscat. Among the services rendered were passport renewal, notarials, overseas voters registration, civil registration, OWWA and Pag-IBIG membership registration, and issuance of Overseas Employment Certification (OEC). The Embassy also held dialogues with the attendees to explain Philippine and Omani regulations affecting Filipino workers abroad.
There are two consular outreach activities being scheduled by the Embassy in Salalah each year. The next one is scheduled for the month of November.
There are an estimated 2,000 Filipinos in Salalah. END
