26 October 2014 - The Filipino community in Buraimi, a governorate of Oman situated at the border with United Arab Emirates (UAE), hailed the first consular outreach conducted by the Philippine Embassy in that part of Oman on October 24.
A full range of consular and overseas Filipino worker (OFW)-related services were rendered by the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Muscat. The Filipino community in Buraimi showed strong interest in registering as overseas voters.
There are about 2,000 Filipinos living and working in Buraimi. They are employed as nurses, teachers, technicians, sales personnel, office workers, and household service workers. A post-arrival orientation seminar was conducted by the Embassy on the same day. The seminar discussed various issues and concerns. Mr. Rhoy Landicho, a Filipino community volunteer coordinator in Buraimi, said that the whole-day forum was very informative and enlightening and helped in making them “feel proud to be a Filipino.” END
