18 December 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Muscat has successfully conducted a video screening on the topic “Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC),” which is one of the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) activities for December. The activity was held at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal on December 16.
A video presentation which talks about RA 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004, was shown to 48 attendees that included Embassy officers and staff and their dependents, and the female wards housed at the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center(MWOOFRC). An interactive discussion on the topic was also conducted after the screening.
The attendees benefited from the Q&A format of the program which explained the many facets of the law that strengthen the rights of women and remedies to protect these rights.
A similar activity is also scheduled to be conducted on December 23 as part of the Embassy’s fourth quarter GAD activities. END
