Philippine Ambassador to Oman, Narciso T. Castañeda joined other ASEAN Ambassadors who are currently accredited in Oman in paying a courtesy call on Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar Governorate (Province) Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy on August 24 at the Governor’s Office in Salalah.

Ambassador Castañeda conveyed the appreciation of the Philippine Government to the Governor for the hospitality extended to the around 3,000 Filipinos working and living in the Dhofar Governorate. He also expressed the willingness of the Philippines to engage with the Governorate in areas of mutual benefit particularly in agriculture, education, tourism, and manpower. “As the second largest Governorate in Oman and with a bustling economy, I see various opportunities available for cooperation between the Philippines and Dhofar,” Ambassador Castañeda said.

The call on the Dhofar Governor was organized by the ASEAN Committee in Muscat (ACM).  The Philippine Embassy is a member of the ACM, along with the Embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Consulate General of Singapore.

The ACM also visited Dhofar University where the ASEAN Ambassadors held exploratory discussions with university officials on possible linkages with corresponding educational institutions.
