The Gender and Development (GAD) Unit of the Philippine Embassy organized a Workshop on “Addressing Violence Against Persons” for its personnel on 16 November 2018. With Ms. Norelyn M. Cacay, Guidance Counselor of the Philippine School-Sultanate of Oman, as resource person, the workshop covered the different types and levels of violence, the effects of violence on those who experience it, and ways to attend to victims.

The activity was organized in line with the Philippine government’s 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) to start on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, until 12 December 2018. In accordance with the year’s theme, “VAW-free community starts with me,” the workshop also aimed to enhance the Embassy personnel’s training in responding to Overseas Filipinos, especially those in distressing situations, who approach them for assistance for various issues. The workshop also took an inclusive view, recognizing that violence affects women as well as men and children of varying age and backgrounds. END
